Beaufort is located on the Western Highway between Ararat and Ballarat. The commercial centre of Beaufort stretches along a section of Neill Street and Lawrence Street, with old-style architecture blended with modern buildings. Residents can sample and enjoy the huge variety of local produce including wines at cafes and restaurants, while a huge number of visitors can also experience the produce when passing through via the Western Highway. At the western end of Beaufort's commercial centre, there is a historic octagonal band rotunda, on the other side of the road there is Memorial Park which holds a monthly market with a selection of regional produce, art, craft, and collectables. Beaufort Lake is located on the southern edge of town and is adjacent to the Goldfields Recreation Reserve. Beaufort has two state schools, a swimming pool, skate park, hospital, a rail station and is within an easy commute to Ballarat (approx. 50kms) and to Melbourne (approx 164kms west). The football team competes in the Central Highlands Football League.
